Abstract
Conformable hydrogen pressure vessels are a promising alternative to cylindrical ones, especially for fuel-cell electric vehicles. This work focuses on the mechanical evaluation of a reinforcing structure for conformable full-CFRP pressure vessels based on internal tension struts. A process for sample preparation was developed using filament winding. Moreover, techniques for mechanical evaluation and cross-sectional imaging of the interface between the reinforcing structure and the tank wall were established. Different manufacturing and design parameters were varied to improve the mechanical load the structure can bear. Based on the results, further development steps for the configuration of a technology demonstrator can be derived.
