Coated particles: Preliminary results of laboratory studies on interaction of ammonia with coated sulfurid acid droplets or hydrogensulfate particles

The ammonia neutralisation of coated acidic aerosol was studied. Submicron aerosols of encapsulated sulfuric acid and ammoniumhydrogensulfate were produced by condensation techniques. Coatings of n-Hexadecanol caused complete preservation of the acidic functions whereas a liquid coating of n-Decanol increased the extent of neutralisation of sulfuric acid.
