Abstract

The possibilities of digital remote sensing to monitor and map biotope types are discussed. The data used were acquired by the airborne thematic mapper DAEDALUS, with eleven spectral channels, from an altitude of 4000 m above ground. After some preprocessing (geometric and radiometric corrections), an optimized classification of 15 different biotope types was carried out and verified by a random set of small areas using aerial photographs and terrestrial results. Initial results show that the possibility of obtaining concrete results with these data is very high.
