Abstract

The existing test methods to determine the concrete resistance against chloride ingress were developed with focus prior on Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)/CEM I concretes. However, with the essential requirement of CO2 reduction within cement production there will be new cement compositions in the future with reduced percentage of OPC. This research focuses on the existing rapid migration and diffusion test methods, whether reliable results can be obtained even for the new cement compositions. The preliminary Rapid Chloride Migration (RCM) tests presented in this paper show that futher investigations are needed, especially with regard to the variability of the test setup like NaCl concentration or the presence of KOH in the catholyte solution.
