Abstract

This chapter introduces a political-economy model of the supply and demand for indicators. It notes that most indicators are used and supplied in political contexts that do not closely follow market guidelines, which means that the supply and demand illustrated in the model may be in long-term disequilibrium. It stresses that focusing only on the producers and users of indicators is insufficient, and provides a model that shows the four relevant groups of stakeholders, which can be applied to the private producers of indicators.
