Abstract

Sustainable Construction is nowadays concretely demanded and must be implemented by the different methods of construction. The German Association for Structural Concrete (DAfStb) aims to support all essential participants of the construction with concrete by editing the guidelines .,of sustainable construction with concrete". These guidelines are being developed in a joint research project which is founded by the German Ministry for education and research and which takes the entire life cycle of concrete into account. Flexible building structures using innovative floor systems are in the focus of a subproject. Flexible building structures may allow to adapt the entire life time of a building with several successive types of use to the technical service life of its structure. An ecological and economic sensible recycling of a building may therefore contribute to sustainability. A predictive Life Cycle Management System (PLMS) is being developed within a further subproject and transferred into a softwareprototype. The basic concept of the Life Cycle Management System is the combination of probabilistic deterioration models for the condition prognosis and non-destructive inspection methods on the base of a three dimensional geometry model of the building. Thus, for instance inspection data can be attached to the model. Moreover, hot spots can be visualised related to structural elements and therefore easily be identified. The system can be applied on different system-levels (element or building level) as well as for buildings with different complexity. Therefore, the system supports the building-operator in an economic and sustainable optimisation of building operation according to the user-requirements.
