Abstract
We present specific heat measurements of a Ca9La5Cu24O41single crystal in magnetic fields up to 14 T along the three principal crystallographic axes. Anomalies of the specific heat indicating long-range antiferromagnetic order exhibit a strong anisotropy with respect to the field orientation. In addition, no evidence for a spin-flop phase could be found down to 4 K representing an unusual feature for S = 1/2 copper magnetism.
