Abstract
The fluctuating electricity generation with photovoltaic and wind energy plants and the quality of production forecasts especially for wind determine the requirements for the dynamic behavior of conventional power plants. Modern coal power plants and CCP plants are flexible and are able to compensate the fluctuation of renewable energies in the medium term. CCP plants exhibit shorter start-up times. With decreasing load factors of power plants in the future the main advantage of CCP are the lower capital costs. Electricity storages will be required for a further increase of renewable energies. Because of the high energy density synthetic fuels are suited for a seasonal storage. For solid fuels gasification power plants exhibit advantages compared to state of the art steam power plants.
