Abstract

This paper presents an analytical method for describing a single-stator axial-flux induction machine with squirrel cage. First, all kinds of axial-flux induction machines are described and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Afterwards, the current sheet theory and its application to the single-stator axial-flux induction machine is explained. Based on this, the derivation of the magnetic flux density in the air gap is illustrated. From this, the flux linked with the stator phases and the squirrel cage as well as the inductances are calculated. The analytical description is completed with the estimation of the electromagnetic torque and of the parameters of the single-phase equivalent circuit.
