Abstract

This paper presents an improved type-2 phase-locked loop-based sliding mode observer for sensorless control of surface-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous machines (SPMSM) to achieve accurate speed and position estimation. A phase-locked loop (PLL) scheme is widely employed in sensorless control methods due to its simple design. However, the traditional PLL has a large position error under speed dynamic operations. In order to eliminate such drawback, a type-2 PLL with revised structured is proposed to obtain the information of rotor position and speed accurately under dynamic process. In addition, the parameter tuning guidelines of the proposed type-2 PLL is provided in detail. Finally, the proposed method has been implemented by experiment on a Higale platform with a 0.2-kW SPMSM to verify the effective performance.
