Abstract

A time-domain impedance boundary condition for the simulation of turbulent compressible flow is presented. The boundary condition is based on the Navier Stokes Characteristics Boundary Condition formulation and uses the technique of wave masking to separate acoustic variables from flow field properties. The acoustic impedance, or equivalently the reflection coefficient, is generated with filter methods applying the z-transformation. The aim is to provide a numerically stable boundary condition, that allows to impose an impedance with high flexibility. Within the paper, the derivation of the term of the boundary condition is given, then the boundary condition is tested in two different configurations. The results show a good agreement between expected and obtained values for the impedance and that the boundary condition is numerically stable.
