Abstract

A communication system of microwave signals between non-contacted inside and outside components of a machine tool is presented for special monitoring purpose. General problems such as load matching, power transmission efficiency and product feasibility must be considered for the design of such a system. In this paper, the design difficulties caused by restrictions of the size and discontinuity of the structures are discussed and a solution based on coaxial line is carried out. A total transmission loss less than 3 dB is achieved by implementing the concept for the given machine component in this paper and the obtained solution can be carried out with low production cost and is thus suited for mass production. The general idea and the theoretical design concepts can also be employed for other manufacturing technological processes with similar motivation, such as sensing and controlling applications.
