Optimising forest operations for sustainable forest management and high-value applications
Allgemeinverständliche Beschreibung
Forests and forestry play a crucial role in the European bioeconomy. They can act as a vital catalyst in enhancing European competitiveness, reducing reliance on non-renewable and unsustainable resources, and promoting circular production processes. However, climate change is threatening the health of forests with a negative environmental and economic impact.
OptiForValue aims to optimise forest value chain management using technologies such as remote sensing to increase their value, competitiveness and sustainability, as well as forest resilience. The specific contributions of the project partner at LSAI comprise:
- Establishment of a pan-European, multi-proxy tree-ring network,
- Joint evaluation of data streams from tree-rings, ecophysiological monitoring, and earth observation,
- Derivation and implementation of early-warning indicators with the aim to inform foresters and stakeholders from forestry for policy making.
The OptiForValue project is supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking and its members under Grant Agreement N? 101157658. Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or CBE JU.
