Forschungsgebiete
Professor Holst (*1986) specializes in engineering geodesy. His research focuses on
- static and mobile 3D mapping and reality capture, high-precision static and mobile laser scanning,
- point cloud processing and 3D surface approximation,
- quality analysis and calibration of geodetic sensors and
- advanced methods for the geodetic monitoring of the built and un-built environment (critical infrastructure, industrial objects, landslides, rockfalls, etc.).
His research is applied to a wide range of interdisciplinary challenges in the context of the digitalization of reality.
Wissenschaftliche Laufbahn
Professor Holst studied geodesy and geoinformation at the University of Bonn, specializing in engineering geodesy and parameter estimation. He then remained at the University of Bonn as a research assistant and lecturer. He completed his doctorate with distinction in 2015. Subsequently, he led a research group on laser scanning and the geometric analysis of surfaces. In 2021, Professor Holst was appointed full professor of engineering geodesy at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Prof. Holst heads the working group "Mobile and Autonomous Sensor Systems" of the German Association of Geodesy, Geoinformation and Land Management (DVW e.V.) since 2023 and he is a member of the board of directors of DVW Bayern e.V. since 2021. Since 2026, he also holds the Permanent Secretary of the German Geodetic Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
